The biggest game of the week, showing the new British transfer record, Fernando Torres making his debut against his former club, Liverpool. but it was the game to forget for the Spaniard as the blues slumped into 1-0 defeat thanks to Raul Meireles second half goal.
the pre-match talk was all about Torres, of weather he can make any significant impact on is first game but in the end he only could manage to have a couple of half chances which did no harm to the reds. his performance sum up the blues misery that night, as they were outplayed by the well organised Liverpool.
on the other hand, Liverpool started the game with 5 defenses, an this tactic proved to be brilliant as Chelsea showed no real threat. During second half, Liverpool continue with the same tactic and only rely on the counter attack, and counter attack it was when during 68th minute Steven Gerrard run down the right flank and crossed the ball into the six yard area and confusing Chelsea defender Ivanovic and Peter Cech. the confusion was take into full advantage by in form midfielder Raul Meireles who ran fro the half line and volley the decisive goal.
this win has taken Liverpool into 6th spot and it is only the matter of time for the interim manager, Kenny Dalglish to be offered a permanent role in the club.
